Private Tours

The grounds of Friars Court may be booked by a Club ie WI, U3A etc or just a group of friends for a visit and private tour;

  • - Monday to Fridays
  • Between the months of April and September
  • - Min 10 visitors (gardens only), min 15 visitors (gardens & meal). Max 48 visitors.
  • - For lunch, afternoon tea or supper.

As an inclusive part of a private visit to Friars Court your host, Charles Willmer, can take everyone on an informative, 45 minute, guided tour around the grounds. The route follows a level path, which is suitable for wheelchair users, and along the way Charles talks about the history of his home, the development of the gardens and the conservation work carried out on the 650 acre farm. After the tour visitors may continue to wander and explore the grounds at leisure or simply sit, relax and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the gardens on one of the main benches dotted around.

Visitors may visit the Coach House Musuem where they can see historical artefacts recovered from the land, photographs spanning 100 years and learn about the history of Friars Court. In addition there is a little Shop, located in the former Granary, which is stocked with a variety of gifts and cards from both local and national suppliers.

Wine and soft drinks can be enjoyed on the terrace whilst meals are served in the spacious Garden Room from where visitors can enjoy views of lawns and herbaceous borders.

The grass car park at Friars Court can accommodate up to 50 cars, there is ample space in the main farmyard (on hard standing) for a coach, and there is also good wheelchair user facilities and access around most of the grounds.

When booking a visit a group’s Organiser may take one of the following options:
