Garden tour
During the summer months, the grounds of Friars Court are open for private tours by appointment. These tours are available for couples and small groups of friends, while larger parties or clubs (12 people or more) may also book to enjoy a homemade cream tea in addition to the tour if required.
Charles Willmer, your host, will guide you on a gentle walk around the gardens. The route follows a level path suitable for wheelchair users. Along the way, Charles will give an informative talk about the history of his home, the development of the gardens, the conservation work carried out on the farm and share anecdotes about life in the house over the years. The tour also includes a visit to his museum with Roman and medieval artifacts recovered from the land, as well as photographs of the house, farm, and family over the last century.
For afternoon tour groups of 12 or more people (maximum of 48), visitors can also enjoy a traditional cream tea consisting of homemade scones with strawberry jam & whipped cream, lemon drizzle cake, and tea & coffee. The scones and cake will have been freshly baked by Charles on the morning of the visit. Special diets can be catered for if advised in advance.
Wheelchair-accessible facilities are available, and there is a level path around part of the grounds. However, please note that access to the museum involves crossing over gravel. The house is not open to the public.
