Garden Tour
Between May and September, the grounds of Friars Court are open for private tours by appointment. Couples, small groups of friends, and larger parties (12 or more) are welcome to book a tour. Your host, Charles Willmer, will guide you on a gentle walk around the gardens, sharing insights about the history of Friars Court, the gardens' development, and life on the estate. The tour includes a visit to the museum featuring Roman and medieval artifacts.
Wheelchair-accessible paths are available, though please note access to the museum involves crossing gravel. Tours typically last 45 minutes, and for groups of 12 or more, an optional cream tea can be added to your experience.

Public Open Days
Sunday 8th June - join us on our next open day as part of the National Garden Scheme on 2025, from 2pm to 5pm. Wander through the gardens, enjoy a cream tea, and experience Friars Court's tranquil surroundings.
Saturday 21st June - in partnership with the Clanfield Festival Committee join us in the gardens at Friars Court for an evening of entertaining outdoor theatre when the Sun & Moon Company returns to perform Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummers Night’s Dream’
On Midsummer’s Eve, 1925, magic collides with reality as bickering fairies, hapless actors, and runaway lovers create chaos. With love potions, power struggles and follies anything can happen! Set in a vibrant world where the Roaring Twenties meet the bohemian timelessness of fairyland, enjoy Shakespeare’s beloved comedy, filled with romance, humour, live music, and midsummer madness.
Gates open at 5pm for those who would like to bring and enjoy a picnic on the lawn at the front of Friars Court. The performance area will open at 6.30pm for guests to set up their chairs, with the performance starting at 7.00pm.

Explore Our Museum
Located in the old coach house, our museum showcases Roman and medieval artifacts discovered on the estate, as well as historical photographs and memorabilia from the Willmer family.
Note: The museum is open during public open days and garden tours. Please note that access may be limited for wheelchair users due to the gravel path.

How do I book a garden tour at Friars Court?

Are the garden tours wheelchair accessible?
Yes, the tour route follows a level path suitable for wheelchair users. However, access to the museum involves crossing gravel.
Can I add a cream tea to my garden tour experience?
Yes, cream tea is available for groups of 12 or more at an additional cost. It includes homemade scones, lemon drizzle cake, and tea or coffee. Please inform us of any dietary requirements in advance.
How long does a garden tour last?
The guided garden tour lasts at least 45 minutes. After the tour, you are welcome to explore the gardens further.
When are the public open days at Friars Court?
The next open day is scheduled for Sunday 8th June 2025, from 2 pm to 5 pm. Updates about future dates will be posted on our website and social media.
Do I need to book in advance for public open days?
No advance booking is required for public open days. Simply arrive on the scheduled date to enjoy the gardens.
Can I visit the museum without joining a garden tour?
The museum is only open during scheduled garden tours or public open days and is not accessible outside these times.
Are pets allowed at Friars Court?
Yes, dogs are welcome on public open days but must be kept on a lead at all times.
Are refreshments available during our visit?
Friars Court does not have a tearoom. However, cream tea can be pre-booked for group tours of 12 or more.
Is there a limit to the number of guests for a garden tour?
Yes, the garden tour can accommodate up to 48 people.
